    Community members are invited to spend their lunch hour at the Library for a movie, every other Friday in Classroom AB. Selma Synopsis: Although the Civil Rights Act of 1964 legally desegregated the South, discrimination was still rampant in certain areas, making it very difficult for blacks to register to vote. In 1965, an Alabama city became the battleground in the fight for suffrage. Despite violent opposition, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and his followers pressed forward on an epic march from Selma to Montgomery, and their efforts culminated in President Lyndon Johnson signing the Voting Rights Act of 1965.

  32. Board of Education Oath Reaffirmation & Community Dialogue Event

    New in 2019, the Illinois School Code has adopted a longer oath focusing more on students, quality education and student achievement. While the new provision only requires Board Members elected this spring to take the new oath, the current Waukegan Public School District 60 Board will commit to the principles within the new oath during the event. Attendees will have the opportunity to meet with Board Members to informally discuss questions and concerns. Light refreshments will be served.
