    October 5, 12:00 PM - 7:00 PM @ Urban Edge

The Migrant Quilt Project is a grassroots, collaborative effort of artists, quilt makers, and activists to express compassion for migrants from Mexico and Central America who died in the Southern Arizona deserts on their way to create better lives for themselves and their families. Materials used in the quilts were collected at migrant layup sites used for rest and shelter on established trails in the Sonoran Desert. Seventeen quilts are on display at Urban Edge through October 14th. The exhibit is open Friday through Sunday, noon to 7pm. Groups and classes may arrange times outside of set times by contacting the Waukegan Arts Council at (847) 920-4ARTS.

  3. Michael Kelsey

    October 5, 7:00 PM - 9:30 PM @ Family Piano Riverside Room

Michael Kelsey brings a free-flowing improvisational style to the guitar that involves every inch of his instrument. From his funky, percussive playing style that conjures an image of a one-man version of STOMP to lush instrumentals reminiscent of Michael Hedges/Phil Keaggy, his performance blends multiple musical genres and vocals along with some techno fun to create a sound all his own. He is the winner of Guitar Center’s “Guitarmageddon”. Chosen from among 3,000 entrants the singer-songwriter performed at Eric Clapton’s Crossroads 2004 where he shared the stage with many legendary guitarists. Throughout a performance, Michael may make use of technology, his improv skills, objects in the room, and audience interaction to make music for the ears, but more importantly, a musical experience for the senses.

    October 5, 7:30 PM - 10:30 PM @ Genesee Theatre

The Amazing Johnathan is an eccentric comic magician whose bizarre humor and unscripted antics have made him one of the most original entertainers. The living legend shined as a headliner on the Las Vegas strip, performed for President Reagan, appeared on hundreds of TV shows, and starred in his own Comedy Central specials. Known for his offbeat pranks that look shockingly real, the manic magician always keeps his audience guessing. Perhaps his most stunning trick occurred in 2013, when he was given only one year to live due to a heart condition. Now, five years later, he's back, defying the odds and performing limited engagements for his devoted fans.
