Hydrant Flushing

Hydrant Flushing

The City of Waukegan Water Division is committed to providing residents with the best quality water at reasonable rates. Dedicated staff provide this service around the clock 24 hours a day seven days a week.

Water Division field maintenance crews will perform hydrant flushing beginning on Monday, June 5th. The first area will be south of Belvidere Road to 14
th Street and from Lake Michigan west to Lewis Avenue. The location will be identified by signage along the roadway of the areas being flushed.

C
ity staff will monitor the volume and flow rate of water, taking measurements of water quality, and inspecting the fire hydrants is they go.  Not every hydrant will be flushed, but every hydrant will be inspected as crews proceed through the area.

D
uring this period hydrant flushing, it is normal to see slight fluctuations in water pressure as well as the potential for discolored water. You may wish to refrain from washing light colored or white clothes if flushing is occurring in your immediate area. If you experience discolored water, allow the water to run from the cold water faucet for approximately 10 minutes. If this does not clear up the water discoloration, contact the Water Plant at 847-599-2687 and water service technicians will be dispatched to investigate.

Do not drive your vehicle through the water stream flowing from the hydrants as the force of the water coming out of the hydrants may cause your vehicle to lose traction.

If you see any hydrants that are dripping water, please contact the Water Plant at (847) 599-2687 and give the address of the hydrant so it may be investigated.

Thank you for your understanding and support. Together we can be partners to provide you with the best water quality water at reasonable rates.
