The Council of the City of Waukegan met in regular session on Tuesday, January 3, 2006 at 8:00 P.M. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall 100 North Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.  Mayor Hyde, City Clerk Wayne Motley & Corporation Counsel Brian Grach were present. Treasurer, Pat Dutcher was absent.

21.  He will be holding an 8th Ward meeting on January 11, 2006 at 7:00 P.M. at McCall School.  He then informed the audience and the Council that there was a new law passed by the State.  If you are caught driving under the influence of alcohol or driving on a suspended or revoked license and without insurance it is considered a felony, by State Law.

22.  Happy New Year to everyone.  He then congratulated his son for graduating from                           College; he is very proud of him.

23.  Asked Chief Biang to explain to the Council and the audience how the new felony law works.  He then asked the Chief if there was going to be a notice or something sent to the residents to inform them of this new law?  The objective is to make Waukegan safer.  Happy New Year to everyone.  He also voiced some concerns regarding the Scoop the Loop event.  He then spoke on the issue of limiting the time an Alderman is alowed to speak.  He stated that he does not agree with this.

24.  Voiced concerns regarding a 16 year old dying in gang activity in Waukegan. The City should be doing something about the gangs.  He then commented on the County Board.  He stated that there are too many members on that board; it should be cut from 23 members, down to 7 members.

 

Alderman Moisio

 

25.  Stated that he likes Dan Traynoff’s idea with combining the Antique Show with a Jazz Show.  He then stated that he was very sad to hear that a 16 year old lost his life in gang activity.  He stated that the City should be doing more to help the schools.
