The Council of the City of Waukegan met in regular session on Tuesday, January 16, 2007 at 8:15 P.M. in the City Council Chambers, City Hall 100 North Martin Luther King Jr. Avenue.  Mayor Hyde, City Clerk, Wayne Motley, and Corporation Counsel, Brian Grach were present.

7. The Waukegan Police Department received forfeiture checks in the amounts of $7,302.73 for the U.S. Department of Justice, Drug Enforcement Administration and $3,223.34 from the Illinois State Police.

 

The Waukegan Fire Department has received the new Pierce Aerial Ladder Truck as approved by the Council.

 

The truck will be placed into service on Friday February 26, 2007.  There will be a brief dedication ceremony to mark the occasion of this public safety advancement at 3:00 P.M. The location will be at Fire Station #1, 1101 Belvidere Street.  All members of the council and city employees are invited to attend.

 

The Waukegan Fire Department has submitted a grant application to the Department of Homeland Security for a Fire Prevention and Safety Initiative.

 

The grant request is for early childhood education involving the Fire Safety Trailer.  Materials and personnel costs have been included in the request which totals approximately $39,000.

18.  To draft a letter/resolution and send to the State and the Illinois Municipal League to increase the number of members on the Police and Fire Pension Boards.  We currently have little or no say on who gets pension.

19.  If the people don’t like the way an Alderman spends their money, they vote them out of office.  Under the current Pension Board we have no control over who gets money.  If they are hurt we need to give them money. They are using the system.
