
Goal Statement
To develop positive relations and to create better understanding and communication between the citizens of Waukegan and their Police Department through education; and to create a growing nucleus of responsible, well informed citizens, who have the potential of influencing public opinion and perception of the police, their practices and services, Citizens will gain an appreciation of the problems and challenges facing law enforcement and have an opportunity to offer comments and ideas regarding solutions.
Purpose
- To continue foster goodwill and understanding between the Waukegan Police Department and graduates of the WCPA,
- To enhance the quality of life and safety of all citizens through improving communication among law enforcement officers, other local government officials and civilians,
- To engage in educational activities provided by the Waukegan Police Department, aimed toward increasing civilians understanding of police functions, goals and procedures, and
- To engage, from time to time, in charitable or volunteer activities geared toward improving the understanding and cooperation between citizens and the Police Department.
What is the Citizens Police Academy?
The Citizen Police Academy is a 30 hour block of instruction designed to give the public a working knowledge of the practices, policies, and procedures governing, the Waukegan Police Department, consists of ten three hour sessions conducted on a weekly basis. The Comprehensive instruction covers different areas routinely addressed by local law enforcement. The sessions have been designed to incorporate an interactive format. providing the participants with a "hands on" experience whenever practical. Instructors are Certified Police Officers, Supervisors, and other personnel with expertise in various areas.
